What Is Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) Flooring Installation?
Luxury vinyl plank, or LVP, is a multi-layer synthetic flooring designed to replicate the look of hardwood while offering full waterproof performance. Each plank has a rigid or flexible core, a printed wood-look layer, and a protective wear layer on top. In Ajo, AZ, LVP has become a popular choice for kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and busy households because it handles moisture and impact far better than real wood or laminate. Installation typically uses a click-lock floating method, meaning planks interlock without glue or nails directly into the subfloor.
Why You Shouldn't Wait
Installing LVP over an unlevel subfloor causes the click-lock seams to separate under foot traffic, creating gaps and an uneven walking surface over time. Skipping the recommended underlayment reduces sound dampening and can make the floor feel hollow or noisy. Because LVP is a floating floor, not leaving proper expansion gaps at the walls leads to buckling as the material naturally expands with temperature changes. Cheaper installation shortcuts, like skipping subfloor moisture testing in basements, can trap moisture underneath and damage the core over time even though the surface itself is waterproof.
Our Process
Subfloor Leveling
We check the subfloor with a level and grind down or fill any high or low spots, since LVP telegraphs subfloor imperfections more than thicker materials.
Underlayment Installation
A moisture barrier and sound-dampening underlayment is rolled out across the room, sized appropriately for your subfloor type, whether concrete or plywood.
Click-Lock Installation
Planks are laid in a staggered pattern and clicked together row by row, with expansion gaps maintained along every wall and fixed obstacle.
Cutting & Transitions
Planks are precisely cut around doorways, cabinets, and vents, and transition strips are installed where LVP meets other flooring materials.
Trim & Baseboards
Quarter-round or shoe molding is reinstalled or added along the baseboards to cover expansion gaps for a clean, finished appearance.
What to Expect
LVP installs faster than most flooring types since there's no glue-down drying time or on-site finishing, with most rooms completed in a single day. You can walk on it immediately after installation, making it a good option if you need rooms back in use quickly. We'll confirm plank direction and layout with you before starting, since it affects how the room visually reads. Expect some noise from the flooring saw during cutting, and light dust from any subfloor grinding needed to level problem areas before installation begins.
Why ComfortFloor Co. for Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) Flooring Installation
Waterproof Core Expertise
We install LVP correctly in wet-prone rooms like kitchens and bathrooms, including proper sealing at transitions where water exposure is highest.
Precision Subfloor Leveling
Because LVP shows subfloor flaws more than thicker flooring, we take extra care leveling before a single plank is clicked into place.
Clean, Fast Turnaround
Most LVP rooms are completed same-day, so you're not living around a construction zone for a week like with glue-down or finished wood.
Wide Style Selection
We source LVP in a range of wood-look tones and plank widths, helping you match existing trim or achieve a completely new look.

Quality LVP typically lasts 15 to 25 years with normal residential use, depending on wear layer thickness and how well the room is maintained.
Yes, LVP is one of the best options for basements because of its waterproof core, as long as we test and address any active moisture issues in the concrete first.
